Mitzvah #1 (12/1/09)

As I have mentioned on Twitter and Facebook (numerous times, in fact), I have been vaguely sick for the last few days - minor "flu-like symptoms."  It did feel a little more that "minor" at the doctor's office yesterday when the student Nurse Practioner SQUOZE (yes, that's a word) my lymph glands.  So I've taken a couple of sick days (I have plenty to spare) to wallow at home.

I had gotten out of bed at 11:00 with the urge to bake something, and was in the midst of both a batch of Lucy's Dinner Rolls and a batch of Chocolate Chip Muffins.  Mr. Mamie was perusing the "Cookies" binder for his choice of what I would bake next, and then... the phone rang (well, the BlackBerry chirped).

It was Niece, calling from school, saying she had a headache and a tummyache and could I come get her because both Mommy and Daddy were at work....

I had bed-head.  I was in pajamas.  I, too, had a headache.  I was baking. I was wallowing.

But, in the spirit of doing a mitzvah, I didn't tell her to stick it out in first grade for three more hours. I put on jeans and Crocs and a ball cap, Mr. Mamie tossed the booster seat in the MarvMobile and I went and fetched her.  At least NPR was talking about books as I drove.

Brought her home and we're all eating homemade chicken-basil-orzo soup (from the freezer) and watching Hannah Montana on TV (which in itself is a mitzvah!).
