Listen up, kids! Or not....

Lately I've been lamenting my class's TOTAL inability to follow directions, and this seems to be a common theme among primary grade bloggers.

I'm sitting here on Saturday night, geeking away with the Mizzou-Oklahoma game on the TV. The stadium officials made an announcement to the fans/students about NOT coming onto the field at the end of the game.

Mizzou just won, and you guessed it - the field was FLOODED with fans and the goalposts were down within 10 seconds.

I guess college kids are as bad as first graders when it comes to following directions!

  1. The officials actually took down the goal posts so no one would get hurt. They have the ability to do that now!

  2. Oh, don't even f-ing get me STARTED on this! I go to my middle-schoolers' band recitals, right? The directors make announcements, both before the show starts and IMMEDIATELY after it finishes, in perfectly clear and articulate English, that the audience (comprised mostly of parents, mind) are to PLEASE STAY IN THEIR STINKIN' SEATS UNTIL THE KIDS LEAVE THE GYM FLOOR! HELLOOO??! Do you all understand the words? SIT! STAY!

EVERY. SINGLE. BLESSED. CONCERT, the stands empty out and the poor kids are left to try to navigate the sea of grown-ups, often trying to manage unwieldy instruments in the process. It kills me EVERY TIME. I have half a mind to volunteer to hold them back next time.

And we wonder why kids don't follow the rules; none of their PARENTS do!
